AFL

The UNSW-ES Bulldogs kicked off their season over the weekend with a strong message to their opponents that they are out for even more success in 2019 than they achieved last season. With five wins from their eight teams over the weekend, it was a great start to the season for the Bulldogs. The women’s Premier Division team will be recovering from a narrow loss to Sydney Uni, but will no doubt bounce back in their attempt to secure a fourth consecutive premiership. Meanwhile the men’s Premier Division team got their premiership defence off to a great start with a 10-point win over the Demons. Special mention to Bulldogs player Tom Heath who played his 100th game for the club on the weekend.

HOCKEY
The UNSW Hockey teams have recently started their seasons, with teams competing across four different leagues. The Women’s Metro League Team 1 got off to a flying start against Sydney Uni in Round 1, but unfortunately went down to GNS over the weekend. They will be looking to bounce back when they take on Macquarie-Bankstown this weekend. The Men’s Premier League 1 team suffered two close defeats to start the season, but a home game this weekend against GNS, who are also yet to record a win, should give them the boost they need.

FOOTBALL
Our Football teams are almost a quarter of the way through their seasons. Times have been tough for the women’s team in the NSW Premier League, with only one win from five rounds so far. However taking their opportunities to knock off the Marconi Stallions this weekend could see a significant move up the ladder. The men’s team, who are competing in the NSW State League, are yet to record a win in 2019 but have a good opportunity to take down the Balmain Tigers this Saturday.

UNSW Women’s lost to Southern Districts 1-2
UNSW Men’s lost to Hurstville FC 1-3

WATER POLO
Our teams are approaching the last few rounds of the Australian Water Polo League and had some strong results at their home pool, the UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre, over the weekend. The women's team came away with wins in both their games, taking their win tally to 13 for the season. They are sitting at second place on the ladder, just one point behind Queensland Thunder. Meanwhile a narrow loss to Drummoyne on Sunday didn't affect the mens' team's place at the top of the ladder - they are currently 11 points clear in first place with only four rounds remaining.

SWIMMING
A number of members of the UNSW Swimming Club are currently competing at the Open Nationals in Adelaide. Day 1 saw Cameron Harkins and Tom Berryman compete in the 100m backstroke and Erwan Le Pechoux race the 400m freestyle. A special mention must be made of Frances Shires, who placed 5th in final of the 800m freestyle.
