It's not often Australia gets a win over New Zealand in rugby and even less often that they are able to hold them to nil. In a great sign for the future of Australian rugby, the Junior Wallabies were able to do just that over the weekend, defeating New Zealand 24-0 in the Oceania Under-20 championship on the Gold Coast on Saturday night.
Ben Lexcen scholar and UNSW Indigenous Athlete of the Year, Triston Reilly, played a key part in the victory, scoring a spectacular try in the 63rd minute. Reilly managed to leap over the New Zealand winger to secure the ball and slam it down for a try to pull the game out of the opposition's reach.
The Junior Wallabies claimed the Oceania Championship after winning all three of their games at the event. Reilly - who has also played for Australia in Rugby Sevens - will now be pushing for selection for the 2019 World Rugby Under 20 Championship which will be held in Argentina in June.
Reilly is studying a Bachelor of Arts at UNSW and manages to balance his studies with his ever-increasing workload of elite rugby. He also plays for UNSW's community partner Randwick Rugby in the Shute Shield.
