2019 UNSW Maths + Stats Ambassador, Kate Smith-Miles, delivers public lecture

Our 2019 UNSW Mathematics and Statistics Ambassador, Professor Kate Smith-Miles, delivered a public lecture at UNSW last week.
70 people gathered in Colombo Theatre C on Thursday evening for the fun and fascinating talk, How maths can reveal the secrets in your face... No more lying about your age!
Professor Smith-Miles discussed her research which uses techniques from mathematics to model the facial ageing process, enabling accurate age estimation, as well
as simulation of the ageing process.
Following the talk, attendees enjoyed the exhibition “Women of Mathematics throughout Europe. A gallery of portraits” over drinks in the Colombo foyer.
Professor Smith-Miles also gave a presentation the following day at our annual Girls Do the Maths workshop.
