“My postgraduate degree helped me bridge the gap in my understanding between the physics and the real-world applications implemented through conventional engineering. The degree widened my outlook in the industry, connected me with international experts and allowed me to develop my technical capabilities.

I would suggest finding out as much as possible about the course (you’re interested in pursuing) and talking to past students to learn about their experiences.”

Ally Ribalko
Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering)

4. Be taught by industry experts

Our industry partners is what differentiates our student experience. UNSW industry partners collaborate on our curriculum to ensure you graduate with the skills needed by industry today. Many of our partners teach some of our courses as casual academics and guest lecturers. Our teaching staff have received accolades for their outstanding innovation and research – with UNSW Engineering academics regularly recognised on the list of Australia’s Most Innovative Engineers.

Our partners also engage with us on projects that students can actively collaborate with during their studies at UNSW applying their classroom learning to real-world problems and solutions.

Recently UNSW Engineering signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese lunar exploration company ispace, to jointly pursue research and development in space resources and infrastructure. This enables collaborative work on areas of common interest, including technology development and space missions, with Engineering staff and students also able to participate in exchange programs.

Professor Serkan Saydam, an internationally renowned specialist in off-Earth mining operations, said partnering with ispace will accelerate UNSW’s work, including the development of its space resources missions.

“The primary motive for choosing to undertake a postgraduate degree at UNSW was to receive professional training from experts in the nuclear engineering and science fields. The Nuclear Engineering specialisation provided me with what I was seeking as well as being an interesting and well-structured program”.

Simon Breslin
Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering)

UNSW Engineering produces industry-relevant engineers and maximises engagement between students and industry, ensuring our graduates can find their ideal job and our industry partners can engage with ideal employees as early as possible, securing top talent for their organisation.

5. Graduate with confidence

With 92% of postgraduate UNSW Engineering graduates finding full-time employment within four months of graduating*, our impressive global academic rankings across Engineering demonstrates our teaching and research depth and excellence.

We’re ranked 1st in Australia for both teaching and research in Engineering and Technology in the 2021 Times Higher Education rankings. Our programs have been carefully designed to meet the needs of career opportunities in Australia and across the world - which is just one reason Australia’s top employers prefer our graduates over any other university, and why we’re ranked 22nd in the world for employer reputation. UNSW has the most employable graduates in Australia according to the 2020 AFR Top 100 Future Leaders

“The reputation of the educational institution was a very important factor. I knew from previous experience in job hunting that many companies place a lot of value on the reputation of the institution, as opposed to focusing exclusively on an individual’s experience and skills. UNSW has produced excellent professionals in numerous fields with an impressive consistency over many years”.
