We are pleased to welcome to the UNSW School of Population Health Katrina Blazek as Lecturer in Health Data Science, and Ben Harris-Roxas as Senior Lecturer in Integrated Care who start their roles with the School in July this year.
Katrina has a Bachelor in Medical Science from UNSW and is a graduate of the NSW Health Biostatistics Training Program where she completed projects with Aboriginal Environmental Health, Prevention Research Collaboration, Transport for NSW and Cancer Institute NSW. She has a strong research background in applied biostatistics, public health, and health data science, and has worked as a molecular biologist, first in cancer research and then in the field of immunology in the UK.
“I am looking forward to once again returning to UNSW, in particular cultivating the statistical literacy of our future public health workforce as well as working with researchers to tackle interesting analytical challenges,” says Katrina.
Katrina joins the School from the School of Public Health, University of Sydney, where she teaches Advance Statistical Modelling to public health students and Principles of Statistical Inference in the Master of Biostatistics program. Katrina also works with the Centre for Kidney Research.
Ben Harris-Roxas was previously the Director of the South Eastern Sydney Research Collaboration Hub (SEaRCH) within the UNSW Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, and brings experience in integrated care, health impact assessment, and health services research. He was previously Deputy Director of the UNSW Centre for Health Equity Training Research and Evaluation (CHETRE), based at the Ingham Institute in Liverpool.
"I am greatly looking forward to building on my existing collaborations within the School, developing research with our partner Local Health Districts and other organisations, as well as contributing to the growing health leadership and management team within the School,” says Ben.
Ben completed his PhD in the School of Population Health in 2014 and has worked in consulting and government. His current research projects include an NHMRC Partnership Grant with Sydney Local Health District looking at the role of community health navigators, and an NSW Health Translational Research Grant with SLHD Mental Health Services on enhancing integration with primary care using an electronic shared care plan.
