Congratulations to Professor David Warton, who has featured on the 2021 Highly Cited Researchers list.

This is the third year in a row that Professor Warton has been named on the list, in the category Environment and Ecology, which is the field in which he applies his Statistics research.

"This is an honour and I’m delighted to be on this list", Professor Warton said.  "Research is a group effort so this is as much about my team of collaborators as it is about me, so thank you to everyone I’ve worked with over the years.

"I’ve been fortunate to do research with some very bright and productive people, many of whom are students, graduates or staff in our School – the best place in Australia to do interdisciplinary research in mathematics or statistics, in my opinion.

"I am actually on this list for contributions to ecology, and the two other Australian statisticians on the list are there for contributions to two other disciplinary areas. This shows that as a statistician you can have an important impact on how science is done across disciplines!", said Professor Warton.

Professor Warton is among 36 UNSW academics who featured on this year's list.

"These scholars represent the 'who’s who' of researchers at the top of their fields, those making a major contribution to key global issues”, said Professor Nicholas Fisk, UNSW's Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research & Enterprise.

“These top-notch researchers are across a range of areas... demonstrating the breadth and depth of research excellence here. UNSW is extremely proud of their success and dedication to improving society."

The Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list identifies researchers who have demonstrated significant influence through the publication of multiple highly-cited papers, which rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science.

A huge congratulations to Professor Warton for this wonderful achievement!
