Graduate Certificate in Optometry (2022 Term 2 Enrolment plan)
The Graduate Certificate in Optometry provides qualified optometrists with advanced knowledge and clinical skills in optometry and vision science. The program has been specially designed to provide flexible learning options through online and blended teaching modes for students who are established practitioners currently holding an undergraduate degree in optometry.
When commencing this program in Term 2 of 2022, you can undertake studies in Evidence Based Optometry and two electives amongst a selection of courses in Eye Care Program Management, Community Eye Health, and Research Skills in Optometry. You will also be able to choose one additional course offered by UNSW Business School or the UNSW School of Population Health (Public Health). On completion, you will have advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills necessary to meet the demands of the profession in our changing world.
Entry requirements
A three-year undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in optometry (or equivalent) with at least a credit average (65%). Students with an average between 50% to 65% will be considered for admission at the discretion of the Postgraduate Coordinator taking into consideration performance in Optometry courses completed in the undergraduate program and post-conferral clinical experience. There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places available for this program for domestic students.
Recognition of prior learning
If you have previously completed one of our other postgraduate coursework programs (e.g., GradCertOcTher), you may be eligible to up to 50% reduced volume of learning for completion of the Graduate Certificate in Optometry. You can apply for a course credit transfer online within the application form.
