Claire's PhD research will advance understanding of the molecular changes that occur to the blood vessel wall during diabetes which predisposes patients to cardiovascular disease. Working with A/Prof Megan Lord and her team in the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering and in collaboration with Synedgen Inc, this project will develop disease models and apply advanced imaging and biomaterials to inform the development of clinical interventions to protect and restore blood vessels functions.
Claire is a passionate advocate for studying engineering and particularly in increasing female representation in the field. She will use this scholarship to engage and support high school and undergraduate students to realise the potential of studying biomedical engineering and the career satisfaction that can come from working toward improving the health and wellbeing of society.
