Applications are now CLOSED for the UNSW Mathematics and Statistics 2023 Visiting Teaching Fellow position.
The aim of the School of Mathematics and Statistics Visiting Teaching Fellow position is to provide a two-way opportunity for experienced school teachers to spend a year with us, undertaking tutoring in First Year Mathematics. Over the course of the year, they will tutor our first year courses covering Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics and Statistics. Some Fellows have also lectured our Mathematics for Life Sciences course in Term 3. In addition to taking these classes, the Fellow is available during their consultation hours to assist students, helps to select and mentor new casual tutors and participates in outreach such as Girls Do The Maths.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics currently has more than sixty continuing academic staff and more than thirty research staff as well as visiting academics. UNSW is the top university in Australia for mathematics across the CWTS Leiden, ARWU, USNews, and QS rankings. In Applied Mathematics, the School has particular research strengths in Mathematical Modelling and Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, Dynamical Systems and Integrability, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Nonlinear Phenomena, Optimisation, Fractional Calculus, and Stochastic Modelling. More broadly, the School also has research strengths in Algebra and Number Theory, Bayesian and Monte Carlo Methods, Biostatistics and Ecology, Combinatorics, Data Science, Finance and Risk Analysis, Functional and Harmonic Analysis, Geometry, Mathematical Physics, Nonparametric Statistics, and Stochastic Analysis. The School’s research groups are interconnected, with frequent interactions between groups and with other schools and faculties both within and outside UNSW.
The Teaching Fellow enhances existing links between UNSW Sydney and secondary schools and provides an opportunity for sharing ideas about the circumstances of first year students and approaches to teaching.
The Teaching Fellow will participate in the teaching and research activities in the School as well as providing assistance for course assessment, administration and curriculum development, and outreach activities.
Flexible work arrangements may be considered for applicants from regional, rural or remote schools.
