The half-day UNSW.ai x uDASH Science Discovery Seminar was opened by the Deputy Dean of Science, Professor Marc Wilkins, and moderated by Professor Sarah Brough (Deputy Director of UNSW.ai). Talks showcased the broad range of cutting-edge research taking place at UNSW.ai and uDASH. They also highlighted the possibilities for collaboration with both centres, alongside the Faculties of Science and Engineering.

The topics included insect surveillance, speech therapy, responsible AI, environmental sciences, galactic archaeology and face recognition.

The seminar ended with a panel discussion between: A/Professor Haris Aziz (Acting Director, UNSW.ai), A/Professor Fatemeh Vafaee (Deputy Director, uDASH), A/Professor Beena Ahmed (School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications), A/Professor Will Cornwell (School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences) and Scientia Professor Toby Walsh (Department of Computer Science and Engineering).

The panellists discussed how best to work together. An audience Q&A allowed brainstorming in terms of how the centres can provide support, what events would be most useful to members and what the opportunities were for cross-teaching.

The collaborative seminar not only platformed the diverse expertise within both centres but will hopefully create new synergies for further ground-breaking advancements in the fields of AI, data science and more.
