The Yuwaya Ngarra-li Partnership between the Dharriwaa Elders Group in Walgett and UNSW, along with its funder the Paul Ramsay Foundation, was recognised as a finalist in the First Nations Philanthropy category at the 2024 Australian Philanthropy Awards last week.

The nomination was an acknowledgement of the partnership’s work in achieving outcomes for the community in Walgett including reducing young people’s contact with the justice system, improving food and water security, and building Aboriginal community capability and control. Finalists were selected from 150 nominees in recognition of projects creating lasting and positive change in Australia.

Ruth McCausland, Director of Yuwaya Ngarra-li, said, “It was a real honour for us to be one of three finalists in the First Nations category and to attend the awards with such inspiring fellow nominees, as well as a great opportunity to spread awareness about the partnership.”
