At UNSW School of Optometry & Vision Science, the journey through university is about more than just lectures and labs - it's also about community, connection, and support.  This spirit was on full display last week as our dedicated peer mentors stepped up to support their fellow students in a meaningful and heartfelt way.

In the lead-up to exams, our peer mentors prepared and distributed care packages to their mentees - thoughtfully filled with study essentials.  These packages were designed to help students stay focused, motivated, and cared for during one of the most challenging times of the academic year.

But this gesture is just one example of the vital role peer mentors play in our school.  Peer mentors are senior students who volunteer their time to guide and support newer students as they transition into university life.  They offer insights, share strategies, and provide a listening ear – helping mentees build confidence and feel a sense of belonging in a new academic environment.  Whether it's through one-on-one chats, group meetups, or initiatives like these care packages, our mentors are a cornerstone of the supportive culture we are proud to foster at UNSW.

We are incredibly grateful to our peer mentors for their generosity, leadership, and compassion.  Their efforts not only ease the stress of exams but also strengthen the bonds within our student community.

To all our mentors and mentees - thank you for being part of this journey.  We are cheering you on and wishing you the very best of luck in your exams.  You’ve got this!
