Social Determinants of Justice Research Hub provides evidence to NSW Select Committee on Youth Justice inquiry

In March, the Social Determinants of Justice Research Hub made a submission to the NSW Select Committee on Youth Justice's inquiry reporting on evidence-based approaches to reducing the number of children in contact with the criminal legal system in NSW.

Last Wednesday Peta MacGillivray and Eileen Baldry AO gave evidence, and Andrea Hadaway and Loretta Weatherall appeared on behalf of the Yuwaya Ngarra-li Partnership between Dharriwaa Elders Group and UNSW.

We were also encouraged to see organisations and individuals who referenced our work in their submissions including the Australian Human Rights Commission, Shopfront Youth Legal Centre, Justice and Equity Centre, Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People (ACYP), Raise the Age NSW, Dr Lisa Ewenson, Justice Reform Initiative and Ms Alissa Moen.

We are looking forward to following the Committee’s progress including the second day of hearing on 26th June, and the release of the Committee’s report at the end of the year.
