Inductively Coupled Plasma Laboratory (ICP Lab)
Who we are
The Elemental Analysis Laboratory houses Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) instrumentation for trace elemental analysis (ICP-OES, ICP-MS) as well as a range of other instruments for analysis of anions, neutral aqueous species, dissolved organic carbon and organic nitrogen.
The laboratory enables size-exclusion Liquid Chromatography with Organic Carbon Detection (LC-OCD) for molecular weight characterisation of trace levels of dissolved organic carbon in water.
We provide analytical services to researchers at UNSW, external research institutes and commercial work incorporated with our Commercial Consulting Laboratory. We have a current certification with the Australasian Soil and Plant Analysis Council Inc. (ASPAC).
Certification
ICP is certified by the Australasian Soil and Plant Analysis Council Inc.

Fees
UNSW-subsidised rates are applicable to UNSW-funded projects. Projects that are funded by external institutions or industry will incur higher rates (+GST).
-
- Turnaround times for individual projects will vary with the size and complexity of the job, but most will be completed within 10 working days of receiving the samples.
- Prices for specialised work can be negotiated as required.

1. Note that all users require training for self perform items.
2. A semiquantitative survey measures the approximate quantities of a wide range of elements simultaneously.
3. Consult our staff about sample preparation method.
