Chirascan Circular Dichroism Spectropolarimeter

Measures the difference in the absorbance
Personalise
Chirascan_plus_cd

Description

Circular dichroism (CD) measures the difference in the absorbance of left-handed circularly polarised light (L-CPL) and right-handed circularly polarised light (R-CPL), occuring in molecules with chiral chromophores (light-absorbing groups).
It is primarily used to analyse the secondary structure or conformation of macromolecules, particularly proteins.

Since secondary structure is sensitive to its environment, e.g. temperature or pH, CD can be used to observe how these structures change under different environmental conditions or when interacting with other molecules.

Specifications

  • Cuvette holder options: 1cm, 1 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.1 mm.
  • Variable temperature accessory for 1 cuvette or 4 cuvettes.

Applications

  • Analyzes macromolecule or aggregate conformation in solution.
  • Monitors secondary structure changes from binding events.
  • Measures structural changes from temperature or chemical denaturation (e.g., oligonucleotide melting).
