This project is part of the UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship Scheme

Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend and a one-off Global Mobility Grant to conduct international engagement activities.

Vision changes throughout life due to ageing, disease, injury and individual variation. This PhD project will develop the Digital Eye, a multimodal digital twin that models how vision develops, changes and functions over time. The project will integrate optical, anatomical, imaging, visual-performance and clinical data using artificial intelligence and computational modelling to create a personalised representation of eye health.

The research will address challenges in multimodal data integration, model development, validation and clinical translation across diverse populations and healthcare settings. By enabling improved prediction of visual change and earlier identification of disease risk, the Digital Eye aims to support personalised prevention, precision eye care and lifelong visual health.

The project will involve collaboration between UNSW Sydney, the University of Florida Department of Ophthalmology and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, providing interdisciplinary and international research opportunities while contributing to lifelong healthy vision through innovative vision science and digital health research.
