This project is part of the UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship Scheme
Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend and a one-off Global Mobility Grant to conduct international engagement activities.
This Scientia project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the decarbonisation of global shipping, one of the world's most significant energy-transition challenges. You will join the Heat and Emissions Reduction in Marine Engines for Sustainability (HERMES) consortium, an international partnership involving UNSW Sydney, Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, Lund University, and Everllence, which designs industry-leading, low-speed, large two-stroke marine engines headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark Based at UNSW's Advanced Combustion Diagnostics Laboratory, you will use state-of-the-art optical diagnostics and experimental facilities to investigate flame-wall interactions and heat transfer in next-generation green-fuelled engines.
Through international placements and collaboration with world-leading researchers and industry engineers, you will gain firsthand experience across the full clean-technology development pathway. Your research will generate high-fidelity datasets and fundamental insights that support model development, virtual prototyping, and technology-development activities across the HERMES consortium, contributing to cleaner and more efficient marine propulsion technologies.
