Dr Ashleigh Evans

I am the recipient of the inaugural Graham Painton Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship. My research includes identifying novel therapeutic targets in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, post-COVID fibrosis, and identifying therapeutic strategies to prevent chronic lung allograft dysfunction. I gained my PhD in 2017 from the Centre of Inflammation and Ageing at the University of Birmingham, UK, examining the role of adipose secreted cytokines in driving the pathological changes in osteoarthritis. Subsequent post-doctoral fellowship positions have allowed Dr Philp to extend this track record, examining intrinsic drivers of adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in ageing. I have received expert training in inflammation research and how systemic changes in cellular stress lead to fibrosis, using high resolution imaging, proteomics, metabolomics and Next Generation sequencing. My research has focussess on testing the efficacy of treating respiratory disease with novel mitochondrial targeted therapeutics, and the development of post-COVID fibrosis following infection recovery.
