Postgraduate Research Student

Claudio Diaz Sandoval is conducting research that explores the potential of harnessing rainwater to cool building surfaces with a holistic approach, and to confirm its relevance as an integral strategy for the disparate problems of cities in the humid tropics.
His thesis, “Potential of building surface evaporative cooling using rainwater in the hot humid tropics”, estimates building surface evaporation rates in hot, humid climates as well as water consumption to assess reductions on heat loads, demand for rainwater, and other impacts of this strategy on the energy and water balance of cities and adjacent natural environments.
