Dr Haifer is a Staff Specialist in the Gastroenterology Department and Inflammatory Bowel Disease service at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the School of Clinical Medicine, University of New South Wales. In addition to his clinical work, he has active research interests in the role of gut microbiome in the development of gastrointestinal and systemic diseases. Dr Haifer completed his PhD through Sydney University assessing the role of faecal microbiota transplantation to treat and further explore the pathogenesis of these diseases. As an early career researcher, he has received over $400,000 of research funding through organisations including the Gastroenterological Society of Australia and The St Vincent’s Clinic Foundation and has used these funds to complete successful projects with first author publications in high-ranking gastroenterology journals including Lancet: Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Gut.
