Dr John Trantalis

Dr John Trantalis is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery, and Science with Honours at the University of New South Wales. He obtained his FRACS in Orthopaedic Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and proceeded to complete competitive fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery both here in Sydney, and also at the University of Calgary, Canada, the Sloan Kettering Clinic in New York City, and at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
In addition to his work as a surgeon, Dr Trantalis is actively involved in teaching and is a supervisor to medical students, junior doctors, registrars, and fellows who often visit from overseas to undergo additional subspeciality training in upper limb surgery.
Dr Trantalis uses evidence-based medicine to provide optimal care to all his patients. He is actively involved in clinical research, and welcomes ILP and/or Honours students. In this year, students are encouraged to join him in operating theatres and clinics to learn about both operative and non-operative management of shoulder and elbow conditions, in addition to building their research skills.
