Contributed to the development of diagnostic medical ultrasound as a Principal Research Scientist at the Ultrasonics Institute, Sydney and subsequently at CSIRO. Retired from position of Deputy Chief, CSIRO Physics in 2005.

Now working as a part-time academic at several universities teaching ultrasound physics to student sonographers and specialist doctors. Published a highly successful textbook on ultrasound physics (now in its second edition) and developed a series of online courses and other support material for postgraduate ultrasound students and medical practitioners.
