COP30, the UNFCC Climate Change Conference takes place in Belem, Brazil in November 2025.
COP30 convenes global leaders from government, academia, industry, and civil society to accelerate climate action. UNSW is a global leader in research related to Climate Science, Renewable Energy Technology and Transition and Climate Adaptation, Climate Policy and Climate Justice. UNSW actively engages with UN Climate events as an admitted observer to the UNFCCC.
Our presence at COP30 will unlock significant partnership opportunities to collaborate on meaningful climate action and solutions.

UN Justice and Human Rights Days Closing Event: Building a roadmap for human rights-based climate action at COP30 and beyond
Rapporteurs from a representative sampling of the UN Justice and Human Rights Day events will be invited to share key takeaways, recommendations and reflections from their events, featuring UNSW’s Tatiana Trevisan.

Everyday ethics in solidarity building and climate action
This panel discussion in the Global Ethical Stocktake Pavilion will feature UNSW’s Associate Professors Fengshi Wu, Deborah Barros Leal Farias and Brett Biles along with our partner FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas). The panel will introduce the documentary "Climate Change and Out Communities": a film about six women researchers who (re)connect with their communities in Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia and their reflection on what climate action means.

Australian Green Metals Forum
17 November 2pm (BRT) - Featuring UNSW’s Associate Professor Rahman Daiyan, this event will bring together Australian government and industry, together with international partners, to collaborate on solutions and opportunities to create a green metals supply chain. This will include a focus on economics, research, innovation and technology. It will feature a keynote address and panel discussion on Australia’s green metals potential and the underpinning policy framework.

IUCA activities at COP30
UNSW is the current host of the the International Universities Climate Alliance. IUCA established in 2020, represents climate research universities from over 20 countries – all united by a shared vision to accelerate action on climate change.
UNSW experts available to comment on COP30
Every year, world leaders, scientists, activists and organisations come together at COP to share ideas, make plans and drive global climate action.
A team of UNSW experts with deep knowledge across climate science, energy, policy, justice and community resilience will contribute to COP30 in Brazil — on the ground, as part of a virtual delegation, and through science-backed solutions that inform global discussions. Our experts are also available to support media coverage with trusted insights and the latest analysis.
The importance of ethical climate action
As part of our Pre-COP engagement, UNSW participated in and hosted Global Ethical Stocktake Dialogue Events in Sydney in September 2025.
