Information for future students
UNSW degree duration information for students commencing prior to 2028.
UNSW is introducing a new Flex-Semester Academic Calendar from 2028 – an enhanced academic structure designed to provide greater flexibility, improved learning experiences, and better alignment with student needs. It features two 12-week semesters with a mid-semester break, alongside optional six-week summer and winter terms for short or intensive courses.
As part of this transition, the duration of some degrees may vary depending on the intake you commence in prior to 2028. This page provides estimated full-time degree durations for future students commencing in 2026 or 2027, to help you make informed decisions when planning your studies and accepting your offer.
While the timing and sequencing of courses may differ between intakes, the structure, learning outcomes, academic standards, requirements and overall qualification for your degree will remain unchanged. Students will complete the same total Units of Credit (UOC) and graduate with the same degree, regardless of when they commence their studies.
The information below shows the standard full-time duration for each degree based on a study load of 48 UOC per year. You can use the table and search function below to view your degree and compare estimated completion durations across different commencement intakes. Actual completion times may vary depending on individual study choices and circumstances, including part-time study, transfer credit/recognition of prior learning (RPL), approved leave, repeating courses, changing specialisations or varying enrolment load.

UNSW is transitioning to a new academic calendar in 2028. As part of this transition, the Commonwealth
Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) registered duration of selected degrees has been temporarily updated to allow for the maximum duration that may be required for students studying across the 2027–2028 transition period.
CRICOS displays the current registered maximum duration for a program and does not distinguish between historical, current and future student cohorts. This means the duration shown on CRICOS may differ from the duration that applies to your intended intake and may change as the transition progresses.
The duration shown for your intended intake in this table reflects the expected time you will need to complete your program based on your commencement date and typical progression plan. The temporary CRICOS duration should not be taken as the duration that will necessarily apply throughout your studies.
If you are considering your eligibility for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), you should not rely on a temporary increase in a program's CRICOS registered duration when making decisions about your eligibility.
For visa advice, visit the Department of Home Affairs website or seek advice from a registered migration agent.
Important note
The duration information on this page is provided for program planning purposes only. CRICOS registration details may change during the academic calendar transition.
