The Engaging a Local Cultural Educator Toolkit grew out of a long-standing partnership between UNSW School of Education and the Eastern Suburbs Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group in southeast Sydney. The Toolkit distils learnings from the Cultural Residents Project, undertaken from 2020-2022, to provide guidance for schools across Australia that may be interested in engaging a local First Nations Cultural Educator to strengthen the teaching of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives to all students. No matter where your school and community are at in the process, the Toolkit will provide both conceptual and practical guidance for making this initiative a success by working in relationally responsive ways. Editable templates make it easier for you to assess your school’s readiness, map out the journey, and communicate and engage with your school community.
The Toolkit will be available for free download from December 2023.
