Student societies

There are four separate student societies available for Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications students at UNSW: ELSOC, TWEET, STEEP and ELEC PG-Soc. Read through their descriptions to see which ones are right for you.

ELSOC

Founded in 1954, and with more than 1000 members, ELSOC is one of the largest societies on campus. We serve all undergraduate UNSW Electrical Engineers. Throughout the year, we hold a range of academic, social and industry-related events, where you can meet up with friends to relax and/or study.

For more info, please visit the official ELSOC site.

UNSW TWEET

Founded in 2014, The Women in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications (TWEET) aims to create lasting friendships and connections and change the face of electrical engineering.

TWEET offers female EET students at UNSW a place to meet, get to know each other and share experiences. We provide an avenue for you to receive academic advice, form friendships and further career development.

Visit our site for more information.

UNSW STEEP

STEEP is the official society for all postgraduate coursework students at our School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications. The society aims to foster networking and discover opportunities for professional development through a diverse community of people.

UNSW QUANTUM ENGINEERING SOCIETY Q-SOC

The Quantum Engineering Society (Q-Soc) is the newest society within the school of EE&T at UNSW. Founded in 2021, amidst the start of the new degree, “Quantum Engineering”, the society has an appeal to all of those from the faculty, as well as physics and computer science degrees. The key focus is to provide members with industry opportunities in the expanding field. This occurs through a variety of events, such as industry fairs and social events, all with the goal of furthering the members career opportunities and building lasting friendships.

BLUESAT UNSW

Bluesat is a student-led space projects society with a focus on real-world value. We also run events to educate as well as to connect students to the space industry.

We’re constantly looking to grow our teams, develop new projects and events, and collaborate with others. You can find us on Facebook or Linkedin.

PReSS

The Postgraduate Research Student Society (PReSS) is run by students for the benefit of all higher degree research (HDR) students in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications. The aim of the society is to build a sense of community and culture of caring within HDR cohorts through social events and professional development opportunities.
