SmarTex Compression Therapies
SmarTex
Compression garments for lymphodema and vascular recovery
Smart compression garments for people living with lymphoedema and chronic venous insufficiency, led by vascular surgeon Dr Shannon Thomas and CEO Michael Cartmill.
Innovating compression therapy, this solution for limb swelling introduces smart, wearable sleeves that deliver active compression therapy using patented hydraulic textile actuators. Controlled via a smartphone app, the device enables real-time, user-friendly pressure adjustment to improve adherence and outcomes. This innovative design addresses fit, comfort, and ease of use, enhancing symptom relief, simplifying application, and reducing costs to improve outcomes and accessibility for patients with advanced conditions.
Supported by IHealthE through facilitated product-development meetings that brought together technical and clinical expertise and mapped a pathway towards a first viable product.
Finalist, ASHRA Health Tech Innovation Challenge
Kraken Coding EMR-Agnostic Decision Support
Kraken Coding
Clinical decision-support platform
Created by pharmacist-turned-software developer John Shanks, Kraken Codings’s Clinical Branches is an AI-enabled, EMR-agnostic decision support platform.
Clinical Branches replaces static medical guidelines with interactive, patient-specific decision pathways. It asks clinicians a series of structured clinical questions and, based on their answers, instantly generates a concise, tailored summary of what to do, at the bedside, when it's needed. A typical pathway takes just 48.1 seconds to complete, significantly faster than navigating lengthy PDF documents or intranet links, improving safety and freeing up staff time.
Supported by IHealthE with regulatory strategy, financial model development, and business strategy.

Avatar Orthopaedics Surgical Planning Models
Avatar Orthopaedics
Next-generation orthopaedic surgical planning models
Patient-specific biomechanical models for orthopaedic surgical planning, developed with orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sheanna Maine, researchers and user-design experts Contextual.
Avatar Orthopaedics is a next-generation surgical planning software designed to improve lower limb procedures by integrating the 3D anatomy and biomechanical analysis of a patient. Used to plan surgical interventions, this innovation will provide greater surgical accuracy, improve outcomes, and enable surgeons and patients to have confidence that their procedure will best optimise their function.
Supported by IHealthE providing structure, discipline and design-development support needed to progress the project through each key stage.

Vysum Precision Ophthalmic Technology
Vysum
Precision Eye-Drop Management Platform
Vysum is an eye health platform that is simplifying glaucoma treatment by restructuring eye drop administration and improving adherence. Featuring a smart delivery device for precise dosing, a user app for managing regimens, and a clinician portal for real-time adherence data, this solution empowers patients and enhances treatment outcomes.
Supported by IHealthE through a major pivot, with guidance on value proposition validation and quality management system development.
Prototype developed for feasibility testing
Secure Biomedical precision heart valve repair
Secure Biomedical
Minimally invasive approach to precision heart valve repair
Developed with cardiologist Dr James Otton, this surgical tool supports mitral heart valve repair through a minimally invasive procedure without open heart surgery. By replicating the success of traditional surgery, this innovation could extend life-saving treatment to thousands, reducing recovery times and costs while addressing a critical gap in current cardiac care options.
Supported by IHealthE through with several rounds of prototype iteration and bench testing. The final testing was performed on a moving synthetic valve in a cardiac valve tester.
Further prototype development for animal testing
