BABS will commence offering its new online Graduate Certificate in Commercial Biotechnology in Term 1, 2020 and applications are now open.
The content for the four component courses was developed by Associate Professor Wallace Bridge and Dr Lisa Selbie with extensive consultation and input from industry. The program aims to fill the education needs for those scientists and managers who find themselves working or looking to work in the biotechnology industry but do not yet have the knowledge and skills to navigate the commercialisation process of taking a scientific discovery through to a product across complex global markets.
There are plans to articulate the program to Masters level in 2021, which should also be available to the 2020 Graduate Certificate intake. A/Prof Bridge is the BABS Director of Biotechnology programs and has been involved in biotechnology and entrepreneurship education at UNSW for over 20 years and has extensive firsthand experience in biotechnology commercialisation. Wallace is delighted that “BABS can now offer a 100% on-line education program that meets both the needs of the time poor working professional and the academic rigour standards of a leading world ranked university".
Dr Selbie, who has been teaching John Hopkins University’s on-line biotechnology courses for many years, will take on the role of course coordinator and lecturer for the four courses. Lisa commented that " it is great that UNSW has taken the lead to provide a training solution that accesses regional Asian and global networks that should help Australia be a future success story in the complex world of biotechnology".
