Ocean Accounts Fellow - Ocean Governance

Hadi Yoga Dewanto (known as Yoga) is an experienced marine conservation planning and policy analyst specializing in international ocean governance and multilateral environmental cooperation.

Drawing on over a decade of experience in Indonesia's marine affairs sector, Yoga's PhD research focuses on translating scientific evidence into scalable policy reform and sustainable development solutions. As a Ocean Accounts Fellow, this project is supporting research at the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP).

His expertise spans marine conservation, biodiversity protection, conservation financing, and ocean-climate policy—bridging international frameworks with evidence-based implementation strategies. Through multilateral engagement on major forums, including the Conference of the Parties Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Environment Assembly, and CITES meetings, he has contributed to shaping Indonesia's strategic positions on critical marine conservation issues. He facilitated the 5th Global Dialogue on Sustainable Ocean Development in Bali (2024), which convened six Asia-Pacific ministers and over 500 international participants to advance ocean governance reform.

Yoga holds a Master's of Environmental Science from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Marine Science from Diponegoro University, Indonesia. He is a recipient of the prestigious UN-Nippon Foundation Fellowship on Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea and the Australia Development Scholarship. He has co-authored publications on marine governance, blue carbon, and ecosystem conservation in leading journals.
