Dr. Randika Jayasinghe is the Plastics, Waste and Circular Economy Specialist at UNSW Centre for Sustainable Development Reform, developing evidence-based solutions to address plastic waste challenges.

With over a decade of experience working across academic, policy, and industry sectors, she has established a strong track record of translating research into practical policy recommendations and operational improvements that influence decision-making across government bodies, NGOs, and international organisations.

Randika’s research focuses on plastics data systems, sustainable waste management, circular economy frameworks, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) mechanisms. She focusses on the development of national plastics data management systems, currently coordinating multi-country engagement across Sri Lanka and Fiji. She focusses on capturing critical gaps in how countries collect, manage, and utilise plastics data for evidence-based policy development, creating practical guidance materials that enable nations to build robust data collection systems.

Randika holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia, where her research examined how plastics waste management and value addition strategies could generate income opportunities for marginalised communities, with particular emphasis on women in informal waste sectors and community-based enterprises, framed through a social justice perspective. She holds a BSc (Honours) in Forestry and Environmental Sciences from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka.
