About the team

The Data & Information Governance Office supports the responsible use and management of data at UNSW. We provide advice, assurance, and practical tools to help the University protect its data and get the most value from it.

UNSW is committed to safeguarding the security, integrity, and responsible use of its data.

Data governance is the creation and implementation of rules to protect data and get the most benefit from that data.

Established in 2014, the Data & Information Governance Office provides guidance and support to the UNSW community on all aspects of data governance.

  • Data governance assurance and advice for IT projects
    • Guardrails and checkpoints for data governance in project delivery.
    • One-stop-shop for advice (datagov@unsw.edu.au).
  • Policy awareness and training
    • Policy Lead for data governance within the Information Governance Policy and Instruction Manual.
    • Subject matter expert for data governance training.
    • Data cookbook (business glossary).
    • Data & Information Governance SharePoint site.
  • Data sharing approvals.
  • Collaboration and support for effective data management across UNSW.
