How we work
UPP team culture
-
In UPP, everything we do is grounded in purpose. We focus on delivering insights that genuinely help UNSW make better decisions. That means zeroing in on the work that matters — not chasing perfection or ticking boxes. If something doesn’t add value or help drive meaningful outcomes, we let it go. We’d rather move the needle than get bogged down in the noise.
-
We believe in keeping things simple and straight to the point. Whether we’re building a report, chatting with a stakeholder, or sharing ideas within the team, we aim for clear language and visuals that speak for themselves. No jargon, no unnecessary complexity — just thoughtful communication that helps people understand and act. We also pride ourselves on being dependable: we don’t overpromise, and we’re upfront when things change. That honesty helps us build trust within the team and across the University.
-
Learning and improving are part of our everyday rhythm. We’re always upskilling — tackling new challenges, learning from each other, and finding better ways to work. Feedback isn’t something we fear; it’s something we welcome. When something goes wrong, we look at the process, not the person, and ask how we can do better next time. The goal is progress, not perfection. We also love a good pilot, testing ideas early so we can refine them as we go. You won’t be stuck doing things “the way they’ve always been done” here. If it can be improved, we’re onto it.
-
We’re a collaborative bunch who have each other’s backs. We share knowledge freely, celebrate wins, and speak up when someone does a great job. Different perspectives are encouraged — healthy debate isn’t something we shy away from. If you’re stuck, someone will help. If you have a bold idea, we want to hear it. Our culture thrives on openness and mutual respect, whether we’re face-to-face or connecting virtually. It’s a place where you can do your best work knowing the team is right there with you.
