PANalytical Empyrean XRD Systems
Determining structure

Description
The Empyreans are 4 general purpose X-ray diffractometers (XRD) with various X-ray sources used for determining structure in microcrystalline powders and thin-films.
Specifications
- 3 kW Cu anode for general purpose measurements (Empyrean 1 and Empyrean 4).
- 3 kW Co anode for samples that fluoresce with Cu (Empyrean 2).
- 3 kW Ag anode for capillary and PDF measurements (Empyrean 3).
- 32 position sample holders for measurement of large batches
- Adjustable xyz stages.
- Cryostage and heating stages for dynamic monitoring of phase changes ranging from 12-1600 Kelvin. Heating experiments can be performed using a controlled atmosphere or vacuum.
- Standard measurement geometry is Bragg Brentano, but various optics and stages permit grazing incidence and transmission geometries.
Applications
- Material structure determination & identification
- Quantitative phase analysis
- In-situ and in-operando phase analysis with variable temperature
- Texture, stress, micro-diffraction, GIXRD, GISAXS, capillary, reciprocal space mapping (RSM)
- Pair distribution function (PDF) analysis and molecular crystal structure determination.
