The Flow Noise Group is dedicated to the study of flow-induced noise and its control. Flow-induced noise occurs wherever there is unsteady fluid flow, which is just about everywhere, and must be controlled to reduce environmental noise pollution. Our knowledge and skills help quieten a wide range of technologies such as jets, wind turbines, drones and propellers.
Our expertise rests upon the development of world-class flow noise facilities, such as the UNSW anechoic wind tunnel, large aerodynamic wind tunnel, rotor noise test rig, Archer supersonic wind tunnel and advances flow and noise measurement systems. We also develop new numerical and semi-empirical models for advanced study and to assist engineering design.
