Join the UNSW Institute for Climate Risk & Response (ICRR) for our annual Industry Forum, bringing together leaders and experts from research, government, finance and industry to share perspectives, challenge thinking and explore practical responses to climate risk. Previous ICRR Industry Forums have sparked new ideas, partnerships and projects across sectors. This year, we're creating even more opportunities for exchange and collaboration, with new formats designed to bring different perspectives into conversation.

The event will bring together early career researchers and PhD candidates, alongside industry and government participants, around the broad theme of Climate Risk and Response. This year we are developing an interactive program focused on interdisciplinary research, communicating complex ideas, and connecting research with real-world challenges. The program will progress from shared context and expert perspectives to collaborative activities, team presentations, networking and a keynote address from Dr Karl Kruszelnicki. Whether your research focuses on the physical impacts of climate change or its implications for communities, health, policy, business or the economy, we encourage you to attend.

Effectively mitigating climate-related risks requires urgent and deep decarbonisation in line with the targets set out in the Paris Agreement. Carbon credits are widely seen as a way for businesses and economies to reduce emissions in a cost-effective manner, yet there is growing recognition that the vast majority of carbon credits are failing to deliver their claimed emissions reductions and are instead delaying decarbonisation effort.

Despite national and corporate commitments to carbon neutrality, global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, causing worsening climate change impacts. Within this context, climate protesters around the world are demanding a different future. In this paper, we are interested in how the fossil fuel industry and its political supporters have responded to these challenges and maintained fossil fuel hegemony.

We study how firms steer workers’ adaptation behaviors to the negative impact of climate risks. Using unique data from real-time GPS and AI-enhanced driver-monitoring systems tracking 10,000 truck drivers over 15 months, we show that exposure to extreme heat increases dangerous driving behaviors and reduces productivity.
