Maximum time to complete your program
Your program of study must be completed within the allocated timeframe.
What is the maximum time to complete your degree?
For undergraduate and cross-career dual award programs, the maximum time to complete them is "2n+2 years", where "n" is the regular full-time duration of your degree in years.
For example:
- For a three-year full-time program, the maximum time to complete it would be eight years. Using 'n = 3 years', the calculation is (2 x 3 years) + 2 years = 8 years.

For postgraduate coursework programs, the maximum time to complete is 10 years.
Faculties may specify a shorter or longer maximum time to complete a program. Check your program rules for final confirmation.

Calculation of the maximum time to complete a program starts from the first day of the first teaching period for the program you're enrolled in.
All absences (both approved and unapproved) are included in this calculation.

If you think you're unable to complete your program within the maximum time allocated, you need to meet with your Program Authority. They can help you develop an action plan for completing your program on time.
After your course results are released at the end of the semester, you will receive an email requesting that you meet with an academic advisor if you are:
- 50% of the way through the maximum time to complete but have yet to complete 50% of the program requirements
- 75% of the way through the maximum time to complete but have yet to complete 75% of the program requirements
- Exceeding the maximum time to complete and have not completed your program requirements.
It is important to meet with your academic advisor by the end of Week 1 of the following semester, and no later than the end of Week 3.

If you exceed the maximum time to complete, you will not be allowed to re-enrol in your program. You need to meet with your Program Authority and agree on a realistic timeline for completion before you can re-enrol in your program again.
If you're not granted an extension by your Program Authority, or if you don't meet the agreed timeline for completion, your enrolment will be terminated.

Yes, you have the right to appeal the termination of your program enrolment to the Re-Enrolment Appeal Committee.
If your enrolment is terminated, you will be provided with information on how to appeal and the deadline by which you must submit your appeal.
You cannot apply for re-admission or internal program transfer to the same program at UNSW once you have been terminated from your degree.
