Description

This is a PhD research project focused on advancing the Hot Bubble Pilot Plant (HBPP), a bubble column technology capable of simultaneously sterilising and desalinating water with exceptional energy efficiency. The HBPP uses hot gas bubbles produced from combustion gases, heated air, or solar-heated air to achieve rapid heat transfer, pathogenic inactivation through bubble microbe collisions, and high purity water production via condensation, as demonstrated in recent prototype evaluations.

The PhD project will involve detailed experimental analysis of bubble mediated heat transfer, optimisation of operating parameters for maximum water recovery, and refinement of the existing pilot scale HBPP system. The candidate will also work on developing new applications for the technology, such as mobile water treatment units and off grid systems for farming and remote communities. This work will combine laboratory microbial testing, thermal modelling, and pilot unit design optimisation.
