Description

Tropical Cyclones (TCs) are the most destructive weather systems affecting Australia. While climate models provide essential projections for our future, significant uncertainties remain in how these models represent the complex "inner-core" structures of TCs—specifically the relationship between extreme wind fields and rainfall intensity before and after landfall.

This PhD project aims to bridge the gap between global climate simulations and local hazard reality. The successful candidate will develop a synthetic model of TC tracks, wind, and rainfall targeted for Australia to serve as a high-fidelity benchmark. By comparing this benchmark against CMIP6 and high-resolution downscaled models, the project will identify model biases and provide robust projections of how cyclone-related hazards will evolve under future global warming scenarios.
