Detection of orbital objects via their scattering of radio energy is unlike normal radar. The objects to be detected are effectively in a vacuum and follow a momentum conservative trajectory, which is to say their trajectory is both highly predictable and any uncertainty is constrained to a very sparse set of options. However the anticipated signal has a timebase shifted by the motion of the transmitter, object to be tracked and receiver. The volume in which the object to be tracked is located is also very sparsely populated.
This project begins by detecting objects with strong signatures in high quality recordings, and advances to signals where strong correlation effects are needed to detect the object under noise.
