Sedentary life style associated with contemporary society leads to long term health related problems including type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Exertion based game controller systems have proven to be effective in reducing sedentary gaming hours and transforming them into active work-outs. While short term positive health related outcomes have been reported such as elevated heart rates, such systems have inherent challenges that prevent them being adapted as everyday game controller systems, or part of an exercise regime. The purpose of this project is to explore such challenges around exertion systems, develop a sound methodology to overcome the challenges, design of experiments, implement them  and quantify their health related benefits in various dimensions. The project tackles the promise and challenges of exertion gaming by developing natural and usable exertion gaming interfaces and delivering a more practical active lifestyle for the millions of digital gamers and as well as general population
