Coastlines are dynamic environments. Understanding why, when and how change occurs is important for understanding the processes which shape coastlines over a range of time and space scales. This is more important than ever given the contemporary pressures on coasts due to climate change and human impact. Opportunities exist for a wide variety of projects focused on using remote sensing and GIS to better establish the dynamics of open sandy beaches, coastal dunes and estuary systems. The outcome of a PhD in this field will be a meaningful contribution to our understanding of coastal processes and vulnerability which will inform coastal management and enable better forecasting of future coastal impacts.
