The Australian labour market is highly gender-segregated by industry and occupation, with women clustered in healthcare, social assistance, and the education industries, and fewer women in traditionally male-dominated areas, such as the military. Women and female-identifying workers continue to experience discrimination and harassment in male-dominated occupations, with some even having an environment which is hostile to women. Yet more workers are needed in many of these industries, such as cyber-security, where a serious labour shortage is anticipated. Women are therefore being encouraged to enter and stay in male-dominated occupations and industries, however, many barriers remain. Research proposals examining women in non-traditional, and male-dominated occupations are welcome.
