Overview

This course will focus on the artefacts and processes necessary to support capability effects management through the Risk Mitigation and Requirements Setting phase of the Defence Capability Management process to completion of Gate 2 of the Capability Managers Gate Review Process. This course will explore purpose, methods, and outcomes from the perspectives of the Capability Manager, Capability Sponsor, Program/Project Sponsor, Delivery Agency Manager and Smart Buyer process.

Duration:

This is a 3 day course spread out over 4 days.  Day 1 will commence at 12 noon and day 4 will finish at 12 noon

Who should attend

Students with previous Defence Capability Management experience or have completed the Defence Capability Management Course – Fundamentals, who work in or intend working in Sponsor and/or Delivery agencies.


Facilitator

Daniel Lord

Daniel Lord is a Defence and Defence Industry Specialist. He has served both in Defence as a Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy, in both the Single Service and Joint environments, and in Defence Industry across Modelling and Simulation, Data Analytics, Project and Program Management, Governance, Strategy Development and Capability Design, Delivery and Management.

He holds a Master of Project Management from the University of New South Wales, Master of Leadership and Management in Education and a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts from the University of Newcastle. As a Defence professional he is a Principal Warfare Officer and Force Warfare Officer with the Royal Australian Navy, specialised in Surface/Sub-Surface and Information Warfare.

He is an Industry Fellow with the University of New South Wales Capability Systems Centre. His research and teaching interests include systems thinking, modelling and simulation, risk aware approaches to complex decision-making and capability requirement design. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Leaders and Managers, Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute and Member within both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Project Management by which he is accredited as a Certified Practicing Project Director/Program Manager

Grant Moran

Grant Moran has over thirteen years of experience in Defence both as a Weapons Electrical Engineering Officer in the Royal Australian Navy and more recently within Defence Industry. His key areas of expertise are in capability development, complex system integration and test and evaluation. Grant has worked extensively within Electronic Warfare and Guided Weapons programs, with demonstrated experience in providing authorised engineering and operational risk advice to senior decision makers across acquisition, sustainment, and operational contexts. Grant holds Masters in Systems Engineering and Capability Management, and a Master of Project Management.
