Project description:

Coastlines are dynamic environments. Understanding their depositional history, the processes which drive coastal change and signatures of past storms and sea-level change is more important than ever given the contemporary pressures due to climate change and human impact.

Opportunities exist for a wide variety of projects focused on open sandy beaches, coastal dunes and estuary systems. Projects will involve paleoenvironmental reconstructions of past sea levels, storms and climatic changes recorded in coastal sedimentary deposits.

The outcome of a PhD in this field will be a meaningful contribution to our understanding of coastal processes, landform evolution, storm events and sea level changes which will enable better forecasting of future coastal impacts and a better understanding of shoreline vulnerability.
