Computational fluid dynamics models of merging bushfires
Simulate computational fluid dynamics of interacting fires.
Simulate computational fluid dynamics of interacting fires.
Project description:
Computational fluid dynamics simulations of coalescing and merging fires will provide insight into catastrophic dynamic fire events. Using Fire Dynamics Simulator, this project will explore the effect of slope, orientation, wind speed and fire size and shape upon fire development. The rate of spread, fire intensity, and physical mechanisms of heat transfer will be quantified, with an eye towards developing reduced models suitable for operational predictions.
Desired background:
BSc in mathematics, physics, meteorology, BEng (mech), or equivalent preferred. Masters by research or practical experience is an asset. The successful applicant would need to meet the Australian Government H1E standards and UNSW entry standards.
