The primary aim is to improve particle detection, ionisation efficiency, and compositional accuracy by optimising instrument design and data interpretation methods, while advancing understanding of particle heterogeneity and transformation processes. By enabling direct, high-resolution analysis of aerosols and particulates without bulk averaging, SPMS supports more precise identification of complex mixtures.
The expected outcomes include enhanced capability for rapid, in situ particle analysis and improved source apportionment, with significant applications in environmental monitoring, atmospheric science, and forensic investigations involving trace particulate evidence.
