
Sai Aung
PhD Candidate & Research Assistant
Sai commenced his PhD candidature with the Faculty of Law, UNSW in 2020. His research project focuses on the political economy of banking reform in his native Myanmar since the end of direct military rule in early 2011. Sai is also a research assistant to Associate Professor Melissa Crouch on various aspects of Myanmar law.
Prior to commencing his PhD, Sai was with the Sydney office of an international commercial law firm, working mainly on two Myanmar projects sponsored by the Asian Development Bank: insolvency reform and capital market development. Previously, Sai had also worked for two international commercial banks and helped them to establish their business presence in Myanmar.
Sai is admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He is fluent in Burmese, English, and Mandarin.
