Feral cats have a devastating effect on our wildlife and are responsible for the failure of numerous reintroduction programs. This project focuses on the disproportionate impact that some individual cats can have on wildlife populations through hunting specialization. Kill rates for different individual feral cats will be recorded using DNA genotyping and prey autopsies and compared with their physical and behavioural traits. Results will be used to increase our understanding of predator-prey dynamics and how intraspecific differences in predation impacts can devastate small wildlife populations.
