Academic progression measures the progress you make towards completing your program
Monitoring your academic progression gives you the opportunity to seek support when you need it.
Progression requirements apply to all UNSW coursework programs. These requirements define:
- The minimum and maximum study loads for your program
- Your program leave options
- The maximum time you can take to complete your program
- The number of times you can fail the same course or course rule.
Progression requirements can be used to alert you and your program authority to any issues that may negatively impact your progress or prevent you from completing your program within the time frame allowed.

Important things to note:
- Your academic progression is reviewed at the end of each term
- Academic progression is assessed at a program level
- Academic progression applies to coursework programs only. It does not apply to coursework elements of higher degree research programs
- You must meet program-specific progression requirements as specified in the rules of your program. Find these requirements in your course handbook
- If you fail to meet academic progression requirements, your enrolment may be terminated. You may lodge an appeal for readmission to your program.
