Bioinformatics Society
peer mentoring program

The BINFSOC peer mentoring program connects students interested in or studying Bioinformatics (either in the Engineering or Science streams, or as an elective) with more experienced mentors. Given the small cohort of Bioinformatics students, the program aims to foster connections between individuals pursuing similar degrees. The goal is to provide support and make the experience enjoyable, with weekly mentoring sessions between Weeks 1-10. In addition, BINFSOC will organise social events to bring together all mentor groups.

  • Term 1 - The program runs from Week 1 to Week 10 of term.

Mentor application and mentee registration

  • New Student (Mentee) Registrations
    • Open to Bioinformatics students in Engineering or Science streams, or those interested in it as an elective, to connect with like-minded peers and experienced mentors.
    • Registration details will be provided when applications open. 
    • Mentoring program registrations are usually held during O-Week, where you can register in person at the society’s O-Week stall and find out more about the program.
  • Mentor Applications
    • Open to students in 3rd year or above, or those who have completed BINF2010.
    • Successful applicants must attend a mandatory induction session before starting.

Civil and Environmental Engineering
Society peer mentoring 

About the program

CEVBuddy is a mentoring program designed to help first-year students transition into university life by pairing them with experienced mentors. Running from Week 2 to Week 9, the program offers structured support through weekly checkpoints, group events, and occasional one-on-one meetups with mentors.

Computer Science and Engineering (CSESoc)

About the program

The CSESoc peer mentoring program, run by the CSESoc Student Network, is designed to support your transition into life at CSE and UNSW, making the university experience more manageable. The program aims to help new students build connections with fellow first-year students and peer mentors in a relaxed environment. Events include bonding games, parties, workshops, beginner coding competitions, and more. Mentors will also meet with you throughout the term for catch-ups, offering support and advice if needed.

About the program

ELSOC peer mentoring is the only program connecting students in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications (EET), helping to build lasting friendships and memories while supporting professional development on the path to becoming electrical and telecommunication engineers.

Mentees can expect valuable advice on succeeding in courses, building new friendships, and navigating the transition to UNSW. Each incoming student is paired with an experienced mentor and fellow mentees, participating in a week-by-week program throughout Term 1. Additionally, mentees will have access to exclusive advice and activities directly from the School of EET.

About the program

The UNSW Engineering Society peer mentoring program is designed to help first-year engineering students transition from high school to university by providing a supportive network and fostering lasting friendships. The program also offers opportunities for students to explore both social and professional pathways within the engineering community.

First-year undergraduate engineering students are grouped with 8-12 mentees and paired with two experienced mentors. The program includes weekly mentor-led bonding sessions and events organised by the UNSW Engineering Society. These events aim to help students connect, receive advice from experienced peers, and gain insights into networking opportunities within the engineering field. This program is highly recommended for all new engineering students, as it establishes a valuable support network to navigate university life and shape their future careers.

School of Chemical Engineering

About the program

The School of Chemical Engineering peer mentoring program is designed to support commencing students by facilitating their integration into university life, connecting them with peers and relevant undergraduate societies, and fostering engagement with the school's research community. The program provides guidance on identifying research interests for future theses, as well as offering valuable advice on career pathways and professional networking opportunities.

Throughout the program, weekly group activities will be organised, with prizes awarded to groups that accumulate the most points. These events, such as the Week 2 BBQ, Week 5 Camp, "Meet a Researcher," Cruise, and "Getting Started with Networking," provide students with opportunities to socialise, build industry connections, and gain insights into the diverse career possibilities within the field.

Women in Engineering protege program

About the program

The Protégé Program is a mentoring initiative run by the Women in Engineering Society to support first-year female students transitioning from high school to university. Mentees are matched with a mentor and placed in a group with other mentees. Throughout the term, three main events will be held to facilitate socialisation among participants. Additionally, regular meetings with mentors are encouraged, and weekly challenges and topics are provided to guide group discussions. The program includes events such as the Opening Ceremony (Week 2, Term 1), Mid-Term Checkpoint (Week 6, Term 1), and Closing Ceremony (Week 9, Term 1).

  • Term 1 - The program runs from Week 1 to Week 10 of each term.
